How does Automatic Recording work?
This is the normal operating mode of our Digital systems. A system is automatically commanded to record whenever an activating voltage of 12VDC is applied to the Ignition input, in order to provide a dependable video document without user intevention.
Within the Automatic Mode, there are two methods of recording:
- Normal - The system is unconditionally commanded into recording whenever the ignition is turned on. When the ignition is turned off, then the recording stops after a Post-Trip delay period. This duration may be of any length from 0 to 99 minutes (A zero value disables the Post-Trip delay).
- Schedule - The system will be commanded into recording whenever the ignition is turned on and if the current time is within a scheduled time. Up to six trips may be scheduled from within the Schedule Menu. Note that the Schedule On option must be chosen within the Live Menu in order to activate schedule recording.
How many hours can I record?
That depends on several factors: The capacity of your hard drive (the current standard drive is 80GB); the frame/field rate (mode) that you have chosen; the resolution (quality) that you have chosen. We offer this flexibility because everyone has different requirements. Some users desire to have DVD-quality video--others are willing to forego this super resolution in order to achieve more hours of recording. How do I view my recorded clips?
We provide a program for your computer: RTI ImageView. RTI ImageView works with a RTI Docking Station via the USB port on your computer to view and manage your video. There is no charge for this software--it comes free with your system!
Why doesn't my computer recognize the Docking Station?
Make sure that your computer is using Windows XP Pro (minimum Service Pack 2), and verify that the docking station is plugged into a USB 2.0 port. Unfortunately, most computer manufacturers intermix both USB 1.0 and USB 2.0, and do not designate which is which. You may have to use a bit of trial-and-error in order to find a suitable port.
My DVR keeps recording 1-second clips. What's wrong?
This indicates that your drive is full, and cannot record any more clips. If you intend to archive drives, then it is important to keep track of the drive usage and exchange drives before this occurs. Otherwise, you could miss important events.
For those who do not need to archive their drives, the solution is simple: Just select the "Rewrite at End of Disk" option within the Program Menu. This commands the system to start re-recording from the beginning of the disk whenever the disk is full. That continuous record mode provides an extremely low-maintenance system--there is no need for user-intervention unless an incident occurs.
I marked a clip and hit save--where is the clip?
Check the Status Bar at the bottom of your RTI ImageView software. You will see a "Clips Saved To..." message. The program defaults to C:\ , but this can be changed by selecting the "System Setup" menu, then "Tools and Viewer Settings." Within that page, select the "Set Directory For Files" button, and navigate to the desired folder.
What are the computer system requirements to use RTI ImageView software?
You need the following minimums:
- Pentium 4 @ 1.8 GHz
- WinXP Pro or Media Center
- 800 MHz Front Side Bus (FSB)
- 512M RAM
- Display Adaptors: NVidia GeForce or ATI Radeon 7500 or SiS Xabre 400 (or equivalent)
- USB 2.0 (Must use the primary port)
- Windows Media Player (Latest Update)
Why do I receive a "File Too Large" error when emailing a clip?
EMail servers have file size limits; therefore, a 5-minute video clip could exceed those limits. Apply some editing instincts and try to isolate the most important part of the clip (three minutes or less). Once you have a smaller clip, you should compress (zip) the file as well. Check with your email provider to determine their file size limitations. Knowing this in advance can be a valuable guide in determining a suitable clip size.
I am trying to operate my digital system on my desk. Why isn't It powering up?
To activate the unit, you will need to supply power to it. When you ordered your Digital system, did you also order the optional Desktop Power Supply (part number 103524)? If not, please call to order today.
If you have this power supply, make sure that it is plugged into both the unit and a suitable 110VAC power source, then press the small Power Button that is located at the rear of the DVR.
I keep pressing the Menu button on my remote control, but nothing happens.
The remote control menu is locked out if the DVR is in Record Mode. This is to prevent the accidental disabling of recording. Just press the Stop button on the remote control, then press Menu.
How do I delete all clips from my removable hard drive?
Often, it is desirable to be able to completely erase an entire Removable Hard Drive. When the RTI ImageView Software Application was installed, an icon was placed on your desktop: RTI Disk Format. This utility will detect and properly format an RTI Removable Drive, thereby removing all recorded video clips.
Be cautious when using this utility; all data will be erased and it is irreversible!
To use, just double-click on the RTI Disk Format icon and follow the instructions.

Why is there no reminder tone or light when the ignition is cycled?
Verify that the Red Wire has the required Constant +12VDC.
Check the Brown Wire to make sure that it has:
- +12V when the Ignition is On.
- 0V (Ground) when the Ignition is Off.
Why does the horn sound when the ignition is turned off?
This indicates a tamper condition. If the remote transmitter signal is detected within the first two seconds after the ignition is turned on, the system will alarm. This is to prevent having the system defeated by "tying down" the switch.
Why won't the Remote Transmitter deactivate the system?
- The Transmitter Code Does Not Match the Receiver Code.
- The Transmitter Battery May Need Replacement.
- Re-orient the Transmitter position for a "clear path" to the receiver.
Why doesn't the alarm sound the horn?
- The Horn Switch Wire (Yellow) is improperly connected.
- The Horn Switch Wire (Yellow) fuse is open.
- Horn Ground Wire (Green) is improperly connected.
Why don't the interior lights illuminate when the ignition is turned Off?
- Light Switch is improperly connected.
- Light supply wire fuse is open.
Why does the horn switch fuse keep blowing?
- Vehicle does not have a horn relay--Install Horn Relay Kit, Part No. 102893.
- Horn Switch Wire (Yellow) is improperly connected.
- Improper fuse.
Why do the interior lights remain "On" after the time-out period?
- The vehicle light switch was left in the "On" position.

- Questionable Ignition source.
- The Brown wire must be 12 V when the ignition is on, and 0 V when the ignition is off.
- The Solid and Striped wires are reversed.
- Check the wiring.
